Nevada State Legislature

The Peace Officers Research Association maintains a presence at the Nevada Legislature and actively monitors legislation which affects the ability of law enforcement officers to protect the public and do their job. PORAN also participates in legislation to increase training, professionalism, and effectiveness of law enforcement while seeking to improve the social and economic welfare of personnel and their families. PORAN has retained Ron Dreher as the Government Affairs Director.

The Peace Officers Research Association of Nevada (PORAN) proposes making several legislative changes in the 2007 Nevada Legislature. Our primary objective during this session will be to eliminate the remarriage penalty for our survivors.  There is only one marriage penalty remaining.  Senator Townsend has stated that he will sponsor this legislation again.  Co-sponsors who have indicated their support are Senator Joe Heck and Senator Dennis Nolan.   We will be attempting once again to have all peace officers in our state included in the Police/Fire early retirement system.  We also are attempting to get our State Park Police covered for Heart/Lung coverages.  Please contact me or Bill Ames if you have any requests for bill drafts.

Please contact PORAN Government Affairs Director Ron Dreher if you have any questions on the above. You may send him EMail via Dreher@PORAN.org.

PORAN will publish updates on key legislation during the upcoming 2007 Nevada Legislature. Below is a link to the State of Nevada's Legislative homepage.
